Our Lady of Lourdes
|
Construction of Our Lady
of Lourdes in Wellfleet began on December 8, 2007. The new 500 seat
church and parish hall were dedicated by Bishop Coleman on March 22,
2009
and the parish moved back from Visitation
Church to Wellfleet. The beautiful new facilities have just begun to
demonstrate ways to serve our parish community, and it’s clear we will
be able to do much more in the years to come because of the investment
we have made. Funds to build the $6.5 million church and parish hall were obtained through voluntary contributions and pledges from parishioners, and many have been quite generous. However, in order to complete the project we had to borrow $3 million from the Diocese, and that must be paid back with interest. That debt remains, and the interest amounts to approximately $15,000 per month. With our current level of weekly collections we are hard pressed to even pay the monthly interest to say nothing of paying down the principal. We continue to hope to sell the church property in Eastham, the site of the former Visitation Church, but even if we do and pay down the principal amount we anticipate a debt of $2 million will remain. We need your help. Please make a contribution to the Building Fund – any amount will help. If you wish more information, do not hesitate to contact the Pastor. He will work with you to arrange a flexible payment schedule if you prefer that, or a stock gift or bequest or matching gift if either of those are of interest. The Pastor will be very appreciative of any amount you can contribute.
